Met up with a friend recently for morning coffee. Higher Ground’s reputation precedes it and I’ve know some of the staff for years, but this was the first time I’ve sat down and had something to eat from the establishment.
The service was great, the atmosphere was lovely and the coffee was delightful. Will gladly come back again! Thanks very much!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Higher Ground Café in Congleton, and I must say, it was an experience to remember! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a meal. The decor is charming, with a cozy vibe that encourages you to linger over your coffee.
Now, let's talk about the star of the show: the Eggs Benedict. It was simply divine! The poached eggs were cooked to perfection, with that glorious runny yolk that spills onto the perfectly toasted English muffin. The hollandaise sauce was rich and creamy, adding a luxurious touch to each bite. The dish was beautifully presented, and it was evident that a lot of care went into its preparation.
The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring that my experience was nothing short of delightful. I also appreciated the variety of other menu options, making it a great place to return to and try something new.
Overall, Higher Ground Café is a lovely place to enjoy a meal, and their Eggs Benedict is a must-try. I can’t recommend it enough! Whether you’re a local or just passing through, make sure to stop by for a taste of their delicious offerings. I can’t wait to return!

I recently moved to Congleton, & in search of a new brunch spot found myself routinely in Higher Ground.
Firstly the location lives up to the name, it stands out due to it being located on a hill in Congleton centre, looking even better over the festive period due to the huge Christmas tree outside!
The staff here are so helpful & welcoming. I’ve been in multiple times, trying various coffees & my go to breakfast/brunch - the cherry/almond porridge, which I have grown rather fond of…
It’s also great to pop in with my book late morning/midday during the week for a quiet spot to read upstairs.
If anyone is searching for a great spot in Congleton, this is it in my humble opinion.

Ordered for collection, I got the beartown fry up asked for no tomatoes or no mushrooms, also added 2x extra black pudding and some fried toast.
Got home and it states on the box No mushroom or tomato… then I opened the box to a box half full of mushrooms and 2 tomatoes, None of the extras I paid for which were £2.50 each and then fried bread for £2 I got normal bread.
Also got a breakfast bagel with cream cheese and all together £30 I wouldn't really say I got my value for money the food was medium at best :/ maybe I will try it again soon who knows hopefully my order is right this time.

This is a difficult review to write. I’ve been to HG a few times in the past, both solo and with friends. This time my daughter and I went for Halloween brunch, and everything was great until the food arrived. First, and I have to be honest here, I’ve always thought the food a bit overpriced, but justified it by recognising that I’m paying for the atmosphere. Although I’ve had good experiences in the past, today my Turkish eggs came swimming in what looked like grease. Being ravenous, and not wanting to bring down my special brunch with my daughter, I ate most of the plate but could barely taste the yogurt sauce for all the grease. At one point a staff member passed our table and I called her over and asked if the plate always comes this way, and she explained that it wasn’t grease but chilli oil. Whatever it was - it literally drowned out the rest of the food and gave me a stomach ache, even though I tried to eat around it and left most of the oil on the plate (see photos). Anyway, this time the meal really left me feeling icky and I don’t think I’m in a hurry to go back.
Edit since the reply from HG:
I read the menu description of the Turkish eggs before ordering. Regardless of what the menu says, your own staff member said “chilli oil,” and indeed, it was a big pool of oil on the plate. Even two and a half hours after eating it, my stomach is still turning from the meal and your defensive reply doesn’t help. Clearly the dish should be prepared with less oil. I’ll hazard a guess that perhaps it was sloppily made in this particular order. However the meal, and then your answer trying to explain away a bad meal (instead of acknowledging that a pool of oil on the plate is kind of gross and unhealthy) leaves me feeling worse than I did when I originally wrote this review. Maybe try to take the less than stellar reviews to heart and use them to better this establishment. It’s not a terrible place, but there is definitely room for improvement.

Just had the best bacon bap of my life, along with an absolutely delicious cinnamon bun latte. Spot on for brunch or a light lunch. Initially I felt like the menu was a bit dear, but the quality was worth every penny. Can’t emphasise enough how yummy that was!

Three strikes - out! I have been really disappointed with food each time, today a warm iced latte and vegan breakfast giving me an upset tum.

Myself and my husband love to go here for brunch. So when we made the decision to have an intimate family wedding followed by a party at a later date. We couldn’t think of anywhere better to choose. Sami was amazing communicating through the organising of our party. We sorted our own choice of Dj, but Sami gave us food options and prepared the lovely food for our party, he also that plenty of staff on hand to help us setting up before the event. His staff were also great throughout the night, making sure all of guests were hydrated. Everything was perfect, couldn’t have asked for a better night. Looking forward to our next brunch visit! Thank you Sami & team

Really nice 1st impression, unfortunately i couldn't eat my breakfast as it was covered in salt, I like a little salt, but I'd never put it on my toast.
Fine ingredients, cooked to a high standard (shame about the salt) and a lovely atmosphere
Paying before receiving the food is a little bit mcdonalds, and the card machine asking if you'd like to leave a tip before you've had your food or any service should be changed.

I enjoyed my lunch at Higher Ground. Delicious food (I chose the shasuka) and a good selection of cakes (carrot cake excellent). I particularly liked the fact that a pot of tea is served with a decent sized cup.
Nice surroundings too.
The service is good although I think table service could improve this.
Highly recommended!

Frequently we come here, once per week or a few times more and I really like it. The service is excellent, friendly, happy and nice staff. The food is pretty good, but a little pricey for some of the more simple menu items.
Nice coffee, fresh cakes and a couple of beers on tap, very nice.
Good, clean environment.
Friendly to my children and forgiving/non judging when they get a little over excited.
Fully recommend.

Disappointing. Came here after a walk up the Cloud on a recommendation. Unfortunately, the customer service did not meet the standards many have experienced from the other reviews here.
There were 5 of us for a table and we needed an extra chair - we were assured they would bring us one but we had to remind staff after one of us was standing for a while before this was fulfilled.
When I went to order at the till, a waitress started taking it then swapped with another so she could finish a different job but this meant I had to go through the order twice. It felt impolite.
Disappointingly, we weren't able to purchase 1 portion of beans on toast because it was on the kids' menu. Staff were resistant to find a solution for this - we were happy with a smaller portion and staff admitted pensioners are allowed to order off that menu but were told, as adults, we should be buying off their adults menu, which is more nutritious. I have lots of issues with that comment but mainly disappointed they wouldn't come to a solution with us, even where we paid an "adult's price".
No cutlery arrived for one of the meals.
In terms of my food, it felt stingy that there was only 1 egg for a £12 meal but it also meant the flavours were unbalanced.
Asked to speak to manager and was told this wasn't possible as they were in the kitchen.
Won't be visiting again.

I didn't think it was as good as folk make out, took many visits to actually find an available table that didn't need clearing that was at a sensible height

Stopped here last week, whilst collecting an ebay purchase. The staff and food were lovely, thoroughly recommended! I had a bike with me with no lock and the staff kindly allowed me to bring it into the cafe with me. There's a room to the left which is like an old vault, we sat in there with my bike and two little dogs. Menu was great, lots of interesting options as well as vegan and vegetarian - decent choices as well. Also great the cafe is dog friendly, absolutely lovely place and really enjoyed our visit here. Staff were so friendly, and helpful. Thank you!

Nice location and decor, but had the chicken jerk burger which was worst meal I have ever had. When I mentioned this to the person clearing and while paying bill there was no attempt to remedy the situation there was just a bland "sorry and we will pass that on.' Hope you have a better experience than I did but will not be returning.

Excellent good sized tapas dishes. Lovely place, great staff.
Lost a star as we went for the 'early bird menu ' as advertised, to find that it is no longer available. (This has now been corrected.)
